BLT Bar Do It Yourself Style

If you’ve been following me on social media for a while now, you know I LOVE serving up big Do It Yourself Platters’s for the family. 

It’s a super simple way to put kids in charge of their food, get them eating healthier and get them interested in cooking and helping out in the kitchen.

Sounds like a win, win, right?

If you’re having troubles getting your little ones to try anything other than french fries and chicken nuggets, check out my tips for dealing with “picky” eaters.

I’ve got three boys under the age of 9, so just know I get it. ;)

And I’m super happy to share what I’ve done over the years to get them to eat kale! SCORE!

Here’s a new recipe (it’s more of a method) to try out for an easy weeknight dinner. It’s even cool enough to serve at your next get together. 










Serves 4

Prep time 10 minutes

Cook time 10 minutes


  • 1 pound Bacon, cooked, your choice. I used turkey bacon here. Always look for nitrate free
  • couple large tomatoes, sliced
  • fresh sourdough, ciabatta or gluten-free bread, sliced
  • romaine, kale or iceberg lettuce leaves
  • optional fixin’s —
  • mayo
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • pesto
  • aioli
  • avocado slices
  • cheese slices
  • fried eggs
  • sliced bell peppers
  • hot sauce


  1. Place ingredients onto a couple of large platters and small bowls and serve.
  2. Let your kids (and guests) slather sliced bread with choice of condiments.
  3. Add on bacon, lettuce, tomato and any extra toppings.
  4. Place another slice of bread on top, or keep it open face and enjoy!

That’s it! 

Super simple, right?

The hard part here is deciding what to slather your bread with and choose your toppings.
