Why I Created The Kickstart

Hi, I’m Shauna and I created the Kickstart because…

Sugar and Coffee were my homey’s. We’d meet daily and have chats about my chaotic life taking care of three young boys. Because the taste is soooo good. What I didn’t like was my energy crashes around 2pm, waking up exhausted even after a full 8 hours of sleep, and my kids weren’t fans of my cranky moods at dinnertime. Hello. Mid-day naps.

So, my good friend and nutrition rockstar Sarah and I partnered up to create something different.

A meal plan that was easy to follow, simple and doable without dirtying up forty pots and pans and tailored specifically for busy women.

Who has time to figure out what to eat, how to cook it and shop for it while two kids are crying in the background.

Our Motto at Rockin’ Mom’s Kitchen?

Doing your best and forgetting the rest. Listening to your body when you ask her what she needs. And slowing down to do so. Moving gently. Laughing, Dancing. Having fun. Feeling confident and sexy.

And we can’t do that when we’re looking outside for the answers of our life. Or the kitchen. Or listening to the shoulds of life. Erase that word from your mind and do what’s best for you. The answer lies within. Always.

I believe in you and I want this to give you a gentle nudge to start eating better and start taking care of yourself. Because you’re worth it. Then, find what works for you and go for it. Whatever that may be. 

You might find that dairy doesn’t bug your system but that coffee does. If that’s the case, great! You found some of your triggers and you can start paying attention to them. If you decide to include in these foods, fantastic! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. We’re all adults here and can and will make our own choices in life. So, come and join me for some fun. Who is the Kickstart for?

The Kickstart is for any woman who feels exhausted, overwhelmed, tired, unmotivated, unsure about healthy eating, or just simply wants help meal planning. It’s particularly amazing for mamas, too!

It’s also for anyone who wants a good night’s sleep, to ditch the brain fog, help eliminate food cravings and who just wants to feel better and have more energy! Get rid of the blah – once and for all!

It is not recommended for hardcore athletes or anyone currently under the care of a medical professional. If in doubt, please talk to your healthcare provider if you’ve got questions.

Lastly, even though the Kickstart is a whole-foods eating guide, it’s not recommended for mamas currently nursing or pregnant. The body will be gently detoxing which isn’t good for baby.

What makes the Kickstart different from other cleanses?

The Kickstart is a cleanse for the rest of us. Those who’ve tried diets, powders, shakes, pills, and fasts with little success. Only feeling like a failure when it was all said and done.

Everything in the Kickstart is geared to help you successfully make it through the 10 days. The meal plan guide, the simple one pan recipes, the shopping lists – they were all created for ease, to help with meal planning and reduce your stress in the kitchen!

What sort of cleanse is it and who created the recipes?

The Kickstart is a paleo-friendly and gluten-free cleanse. It’s all about tons of fresh produce, some animal protein at lunch and dinner, and plenty of healthy fats.

I wrote all of the recipes and the meal plans. And I’ve tested them with over 70 previous participants to make sure that they work.

Sarah, my nutritionist friend and colleague,  reviewed every recipe and the meal plan. She then adjusted them accordingly, to make sure all the nutrition was balanced and on point.

Does the Kickstart include everything I need?

The Kickstart provides you with all the information and advice you need to succeed over the course of 10 days. I have tried to ensure that all your questions are answered, but if you have any questions during the Kickstart, then you can reach out to me and the community for help (depending on the package chosen).

The only thing not included in the Kickstart are the meals. This isn’t a meal delivery program. We provide all of the recipes, meal plans and shoppings lists, but you have to do the work, which includes getting in the kitchen and making the meals.

What support will I get during the Kickstart?

This really depends on the package that you choose. If you are happy to be self-sufficient, then the Self-guided Package simply provides all the information you need, but no additional support.

If you work better as part of a community, or want direct access to me, then the Community Support Package will be right for you.

I highly recommend choosing the Support Package since this is where being part of a community kicks in! We know from experience that support can be just the thing you need to push past those cravings. So, we’ll all be in a Facebook group cheering you on.

You’ll have direct access to me and can ask questions, post your wins and struggles and just feel connected to a positive group that can guide you through your 10 days and beyond.

FAQs: Answers to your most common concerns

Willpower: What if I fail or fall off the wagon?

If you’ve never finished a cleanse or detox before, then you’re in the right place! I created the Kickstart because I was a cleanse drop out. Ha! Other programs never worked for me so I made my own. The Kickstart program was the first successful cleanse I’d ever completed.

It is specifically designed for anyone who’s tried their best on other cleanses and still felt like a failure. Rigid calorie counting, points, premade food that taste like cardboard boxes or having to down awful shakes, expensive pills or feasting only on grapefruits for three days just doesn’t work. It wasn’t your fault!  It was because you didn’t find the right program to fit YOUR needs. Your busy schedule. Your 2+ kids. Your husband that works all day everyday.

No other program has dove into what real women are going through each and every single day. The programs you’ve tried are rigid. Unrealistic. Unsatisfying. Judgmental. And just plain not good. The Kickstart is different.

This isn’t another strict, follow-to-the-t program that’s gonna eat at your confidence if you have a slip. We’re here to support you, regardless. This is not a rigid meal guide. It’s a supportive introduction to eating whole foods, to minimize stress in the kitchen and give your body a gentle spring clean. If you do fall off the wagon, don’t stress. And if you’re worried about how to say sayonara to coffee/wine, then don’t worry. We all have our crutches. Mine is a latte and sugar. #GUILTY and my local coffee shop knows this! Yours might be diet soda, bar of chocolate, or your favorite bottle of wine. Since there might be a period in the beginning as your body makes the adjustment to real food, we’ve included some amazing tips on how to deal with different detox symptoms. Including breathing, movement, a great recipe for a detox bath, tons to help you deal with mild headaches, tummy troubles, mood swings. Seriously. We’ve thought of everything.

Lastly, consider finding a friend or partner to do the Kickstart with you so that you can encourage each other. Or if you join the Community Support Package, use the online community to support you every step of the way.

Cost: Will I be able to afford it?

In terms of the Kickstart itself, you have options. You can chose the DIY route if you’re looking for a self-guided package – kinda come and go as you please. Or you can go for the fully supported community package. This will be invaluable to you if you like social interaction and feeling like you’re not alone.

The Self-Guided Package and Community Support Package both cost less than a dinner out with a family of four. And it’ll make you feel great at the end of the day. No more sluggishness and sugar cravings.

On average, grocery bills for the people who tested the program were about $50-75 per week. Some testers could grab everything at one store, others saved a chunk of money by shopping on online. Others had killer local discount stores where they saved a bunch of money. It all really depends on where you live, what’s available and what’s in season.

Time: What commitment do I need to make?

We provide everything you need to make this a success. We’ve simplified healthy eating and made it doable, even for super busy people! I’ve got three boys and was able to complete my first two cleanses with flying colors. Most other testers had two+ kids, worked full time or were caravan moms driving to and from practices, school, appointments, etc all day and were able to ROCK out the class. Because it’s different.

The most amazing thing about this program is that all the recipes are whipped up in ONE pot, pan or blender, have 7 ingredients or less and take under 30 minutes to make. Except the slow cooker recipes which take about 10 minutes to prep and the machine does all the hard work for you while you’re at work or busy all day.

So, your time won’t be spent all day standing over a hot stove. We also give you ideas of what you can do ahead of time (meal prep tips) and how long each recipe should take. Booyah! Easy to it’s core!

Since all the recipes are whipped up quickly and have minimal ingredients, the only thing you’ll need to commit to is making the recipes and sticking to it. We provide meal plans, shopping lists and time saving tips so you don’t spend your day worrying. You prep ahead and you’ve got the majority of your stuff all ready for you.

Ingredients: Will I be able to find everything I need?

Yes! We kept ingredients as simple as possible and most of our previous Kickstarters didn’t have any trouble finding them. In fact, you can find almost every single ingredient at a regular grocery store.

In addition, we’ve included a BONUS substitution list in the Kickstart materials in case you can’t find an ingredient or two. If this happens, use our substitution guide or simply skip it. Easy peasy.

I’d also highly recommend buying ingredients in advance online to save time and money. And hitting up your farmers market to get the freshest produce and meat.

Timing: What if I can’t start when the live round begins?

Feel free to start the cleanse when it’s convenient for you. This is easy if you choose the Self-guided Kickstart since you can do it at your own pace, as and when you are ready.

If you decide on the Community Support Package, but need to start earlier or later than the live round, then you can continue to post in the Facebook group for support. You might even find others that are starting right around the same time and they’ll be invaluable to you during your cleanse.
